Meeting of 2004-09/03
MONSON CEMETERY COMMISSION
SEPTEMBER 3, 2004

The regular Monson Cemetery Commissioners meeting convened at 8:30 a.m. in the office at 32 Wilbraham Road. In attendance were Robert E. Pease, Julian E. Szarlan, Albert R. Wilcox, Paul B. Lovell, John R. Nothe and Gaylin G. Bingle.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read by the clerk and accepted with a motion by Mr. Szarlan and seconded by Mr. Wilcox.

OLD BUSINESS:

There was no discussion of any old business for the previous meeting of August 6, 2004.

NEW BUSINESS:

Camera – Paul explained, at the last meeting it was discussed that people were upset about the removal of decorations, and added it is times like that when a camera would come in handy as proof that planted flowers were not being weeded or maintained properly, and that is why their flowers were cut down. A camera would also come in handy during times of vandalism and damage done by storms. Mr. Szarlan felt the Commissioners didn’t need to justify the actions taken by them as it is all listed in the Rules and Regulations of the cemeteries. Mr. Pease said he has a digital camera that Paul could borrow anytime if it was really needed.

2.  Sign at Entrance to Hillside – Mr. Wilcox said the paint is starting to chip and peel on
the sign containing the cemetery hours and rules at the entrance to Hillside Cemetery
and suggested at some point it will need to be replaced or repaired. It was agreed to
hold off on this for now and to wait until better weather possibly in the spring. Mr.
Pease said Billy Dart, of the Route 32 Barber Shop, does signs.

Hand Cart – Paul said a two wheeled dolly is needed for picking up granite veterans
Markers. The markers are delivered downtown to the Veterans Agent’s Office located on the third floor of the Town Administration Building. The markers weigh approximately 90 pounds and Paul would like to purchase a good dolly with rubber wheels that could be wheeled over the grass to the gravesites. Mr. Pease made a motion for Paul to purchase a two wheel hand cart. Mr. Szarlan seconded the motion.

At 9:00 a.m., Mr. Szarlan made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Mr. Wilcox seconded the motion.

Respectfully Submitted,

Gaylin Bingle
